Manicure Monday: Night Fright by Jamberry Nails

Look at the treat that arrived on my doorstep just in time for Halloween! Due to finances, I hadn't dared to explore the current Jamberry catalog until Janet Stoy of Seasonail asked what was on my wishlist. Night Fright jumped out right away. Stars, stripes and skulls play a substantial part in my fashion style year-round, not just on All Hallows' Eve. Want to be a guest blogger for my Manicure Monday when I don't have new nails of my own to show off? Please fill out the form on my contact page if you're interested in a free feature. Plant Photo: Chinese Lantern (Physalis alkekengi)

Remember the fascinating passion flower I shared in September? That wasn't the only plant that put a spell on me in my friend's yard. Doesn't this fruit husk look like a fairytale pumpkin? Hence why I waited to post its cuteness until now. Have a happy Halloween! Flower Photo: Yellow Flowers at Cedar Creek

As promised last Flower Friday, here are the yellow flowers that waved me closer while walking the path between Virginia's Natural Bridge and Lace Falls in Virginia. I ventured onto the rocks along Cedar Creek to meet their bright beauty. Although quite friendly, they refused to tell me their name. Anyone know it? Handmade Giveaway: $30 Gift Card to Porter & Hazel, Vintage Leather Goods

EDIT: Handmade giveaway is officially over. Congratulations to Edmond Leung for submitting the randomly-chosen 91st entry. Porter & Hazel will email you soon with instructions on how to claim your prize. While exploring Virginia's Natural Bridge for our anniversary last month, a tour guide walking by told us to follow her. Perhaps it was the comic book shirt Ogre was wearing, but she said we seemed like souls who wouldn't want to miss this tucked away treasure. Off the path, on a rock we may have never noticed, was carved a J.R.R. Tolkien quote, "STILL ROUND THE CORNER THERE MAY WAIT A NEW ROAD OR A SECRET GATE; AND THOUGH I OFT HAVE PASSED THEM BY, A DAY WILL COME AT LAST WHEN I SHALL TAKE THE HIDDEN PATHS THAT RUN WEST OF THE MOON, EAST OF THE SUN." She said it was a mystery who carved it, then moved on to let us revel in the magic of the moment. When returning home from vacation, I found I had been contacted to host a giveaway for Porter & Hazel . The...

Manicure Monday: Pink Ribbon Nail Wraps at Dewey Goes Pink in Delaware

I've felt pretty in all the pink nail art I've worn to Dewey Goes Pink for the last four Octobers, but this is the first time I actually had the honor of wearing Pink Ribbon Nail Wraps designed specifically for breast cancer awareness! All thanks to Janet Stoy, shown on right. She's a Jamberry Nails consultant who uses Jamberry's nail art studio to create her own custom nail wraps to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC). Janet contacted me through Facebook after seeing me post about my mom's 5K team, Netty's Nips, which I started in 2013 as a fun way to celebrate her being a breast cancer survivor. For those of you who don't know the story behind my Pink Ribbon Fairy drawing we use as our team avatar, she's based on my mom after the chemo was finally over and her hair started growing back. I was tickled pink when Janet offered to send me a sheet of her Classic Pink design to blog about for Manicure Monday. They arrived with anothe...

Flower Photo: Purple Wildflower at Natural Bridge

Isn't it fascinating how flowers can grow out of rock? I saw many wildflowers when walking from the Natural Bridge to Lace Falls in Virginia. Mostly plants with white or yellow petals, but a couple purple flowers like this stood out.
