Nature Photo: Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis

Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis Photo By Aquariann

Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun wrote, "The butterfly is a flying flower, The flower a tethered butterfly." I'm using his quote as an excuse to post this captivating chrysalis for Flower Friday.

My friend Maddy found it hanging from the river birch tree I shared a photo of for Wordless Wednesday back in 2011. This is my first time seeing a monarch chrysalis in person. I had no idea they were so shimmery! I will be stalking this spot in the hope that the beautiful butterfly emerges when I'm around.

Monarch Butterfly
MONDAY, AUGUST 1 UPDATE:
I can't deny I was disappointed to arrive at work after the weekend to find the chrysalis deserted. However, the empty shell was fascinating to study. Later I was delighted to discover that Nick was there to behold the butterfly and managed to capture this shot with his phone before it flew away to spread its beauty around the world. Nature never fails to amaze me!

How To Plant Your Own Post for Flower Friday:
The only rule to play is that you can only add one link per week! The post doesn't even have to mention flowers, but only ones that do will be eligible for being picked as a feature next week. I will be sharing my flower image on other blog hops, namely Wordless Wednesday, and welcome all family-friendly links from fellow bloggers. Crafters can even link up an Etsy listing or other shop product! But if you want to promote a prize, please add it to my Giveaway Chest Linky instead to entice more treasure hunters.

Please follow my blog through any of the social media icons in the upper right sidebar to receive a reminder to return next week. Adding my button or a text link to your own blog and sharing to your followers is also a fairy appreciated way to help my hop grow.

Other flower hops where I've planted my post this week include Floral Friday Fotos, I Heart Macro, Make My Saturday Sweet, My Weekend Flower, Saturday Show Off and Today's Flower.

  3. I have always wanted to order a kid for my kids to watch. We don't have a lot of Butterflys here in Georgia or at least where I live despite that I have a butterfly bush outside my front door. I wonder why. Maybe too many pesticides. Don't know. Don't even really find caterpillars around here.

    1. That's surprising Georgia doesn't have many butterflies! I would have loved if my mom ordered me a chrysalis to observe as a child. Or now. ;D

EDIT: Giveaway is officially over! Congratulations to the randomly chosen 108th commenter, Andalene! Accessorize an outfit and rejuvenate your spirit at the same time! Michelle of WireQueen is bequeathing a beautiful pair of clear quartz earrings to one of my readers. The design is named "Midwife Healer" in honor of the midwife that delivered her second daughter. The four sided dagger beads are different lengths and embraced by sterling silver wrap with surgical steel earwires.
