Nature Photo: Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis

Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun wrote, "The butterfly is a flying flower, The flower a tethered butterfly." I'm using his quote as an excuse to post this captivating chrysalis for Flower Friday. My friend Maddy found it hanging from the river birch tree I shared a photo of for Wordless Wednesday back in 2011. This is my first time seeing a monarch chrysalis in person. I had no idea they were so shimmery! I will be stalking this spot in the hope that the beautiful butterfly emerges when I'm around. MONDAY, AUGUST 1 UPDATE: I can't deny I was disappointed to arrive at work after the weekend to find the chrysalis deserted. However, the empty shell was fascinating to study. Later I was delighted to discover that Nick was there to behold the butterfly and managed to capture this shot with his phone before it flew away to spread its beauty around the world. Nature never fails to amaze me! Featured Flower Picks: Frangipani Trees • Singapore Garden ...

Flower Photo: Daisy Field

See? None of the daisies were harmed during my floral nail art photo shoot last Manicure Monday. Not by me, anyway. There were quite a few insects munching away. Manicure Monday: Blue Floral Nail Art by Jamberry

Apparently this blue floral manicure is a biennial because it's been 2 years since it bloomed first on my nails for a best friend's wedding. Except this time I added an accent nail of blue and white stripes. And I still have half a sheet left so maybe you'll see the retired Jamberry design yet again in 2018! Want to be a guest blogger for my Manicure Monday when I don't have new nails of my own to show off? Please fill out the form on my contact page if you're interested in a free feature. Yellow Flower Photo: St. John's Wort

I haven't ever tried St. John's Wort supplements to treat depression, but being around the beautiful blossoms certainly makes me happy! There's a huge flower bed filled with them outside the office I work. Until I took a photograph of one to share for Wordless Wednesday in 2011, I had no idea it was a St. John's Wort plant. And I had been admiring the blooms every summer for years! White Flower Photo: 'Silver Dollar' Triumph Tulip

My Flower Friday post is a day late, but not a silver dollar short! Since July 4th falls on a Monday when the newspaper has to be built, our boss closed the office yesterday instead to celebrate Independence Day. I took the day off from blogging, as well, and traveled an hour away with my mom to visit a friend we've known since I was in grade school. And now I'm exercising my freedom to post yet another triumph tulip from Longwood Gardens, even though I photographed these wonderful white petals back in April. Have a happy holiday weekend!
