"Sharks have everything a scientist dreams of. They're beautiful―God, how beautiful they are! They're like an impossibly perfect piece of machinery. They're as graceful as any bird. They're as mysterious as any animal on earth. No one knows for sure how long they live or what impulses―except for hunger―they respond to. There are more than two hundred and fifty species of shark, and every one is different from every other one."
- Peter Benchley
I may live only a few miles from the Dogfish Head Brewery, but it wasn't until I traveled all the way to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island that I saw a real dogfish shark in person.

ReplyDeleteWe've had a few deaths from sharks off the coast here in Perth and there has been talk of shark culling. We had a huge protest at Cottesloe beach recently to try and stop this. I love your photo! Great capture.
ReplyDeleteGood shot looks like he's a bit of a poser too heheh!
ReplyDeleteSuch a funny looking fish. I like the photo!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd want to see one up close. Jaws still scares me.

I find them intriguing... underwater dragons dancing against the currents. Cool picture. Any idea what his name is?
ReplyDeleteThank you! Unfortunately, I don't even know the species of dogfish he is ... but if it were up to me, I'd name him "Beer." ;D
DeleteI've been to that aquarium! My wordless wednesday is actually about the Hatteras lighthouse! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for these next time I visit the aquarium. They don't look much like a dog to me except that our huskie has blue eyes too.
