Friday Finds, Knight Costume Style: Masks and Chainmaille Armor

Being featured in the Taming the Dragon treasury this week inspired me to research the Michaelmas Festival. The ancient feast is named after Archangel Michael, the angelic warrior known for defeating Lucifer in the war of heaven and protecting against the dark of the night. The Waldorf school's still celebrate the event to welcome autumn and reflect on negative elements they'd like to banish from their lives.

According to A Little Garden Flower & Waldorf Essentials, Saint George became intertwined because theories say he was an earthly representative of Michael in his deeds. Saint George's legend is very different from his history (namely, the awesome dragons) but both do have an important detail in common - he was a noble soldier.

Browsing beautiful art of him through the ages made me curious what rode on the front lines of Etsy. With Halloween just out of range, knight costumes surged forward. I was amazed at the creative use of materials to mimic the traditional chain mail armor - from handwoven aluminum ring coifs to crocheted yarn hoods to latex masks.

EDIT: Giveaway is officially over! Congratulations to the randomly chosen 108th commenter, Andalene! Accessorize an outfit and rejuvenate your spirit at the same time! Michelle of WireQueen is bequeathing a beautiful pair of clear quartz earrings to one of my readers. The design is named "Midwife Healer" in honor of the midwife that delivered her second daughter. The four sided dagger beads are different lengths and embraced by sterling silver wrap with surgical steel earwires. She has already cleared the crystals, but if you ever need to recharge or remove unwanted energy, simply place in a window that is beaming with sunlight. Michelle believes that the Creator gave to all things a purpose, including gemstones. She covers as little of the "face" of the stone as possible, but still secures it safely in its setting. She has customers who are still wearing creations that are over 10 years old! She's been selling jewelry offline for years, but only recently began...
