Halloween Brews and Espresso Chocolate Pudding Potion

Happy Halloween, boys and ghouls! The studly demon to the right is Justin, gorging on the Witches' Brew Ale I bought him as a birthday gift. He so outdid me in planning costumes this year. Halloween crept up fast and had me rummaging yesterday afternoon for what to wear to last night's party. I borrowed a black and purple striped witch hat attached to a shiny violet wig and a silver hip scarf from my mom. I threw on a cape, midnight blue velour dress, and one of my many pairs of striped stockings. Then slipped on my sparkly silver shoes, and abracadabra - Wicked Witch of the East, before she got the house dropped on her, of course. The magical shoes were originally silver in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book , not ruby as they were changed to pop for Technicolor on The Wizard of Oz film . After my outfit was covered, it was time to concoct a treat to bring. I was inspired by a conversation I had Friday night at the 16 Mile Brewery's release party for thei...

Friday Finds, Musical Style: Rocky Horror Picture Show

I have been a GLEEk since last year and a Rocky Horror Picture Show fan for over 20 years, so you can imagine my excitement for last Tuesday's Glee episode. Tell me I'm not alone! I still haven't made it to a Rocky Horror film screening and gotten to throw toast at anyone, but my parents and I time warped to the 2000 Broadway Revival in New York City. The show was an absolute blast - we had front row seats and the Narrator, played by Dick Cavett , even pulled me on stage to dance with him. It's no wonder the musical is a cult classic. The quantity of Rocky Horror items available on Etsy may be low, but the quality is astounding. Time is fleeting, so take a peek at these handmade creations closely. 1. Dark and Steamy Treasury

The steampunk queen of The Grand Design has pulled out her pliers and twisted together a captivating collection of handmade treasures. The gears include my Tina fairy magnet, a re-enchanted apothecary bottle, Alice in Wonderland caterpillar sculpture, daisy ankle corsets, clockwork octopus cuff links and other unique art available on Etsy.

New Bookmark: Breast Cancer Awareness Fairy

My Aware fairy magnet is featured in so many Etsy treasuries for Breast Cancer Awareness Month that I finally decided to wave my magic wand and release her in bookmark form. All of my bookmarks are printed on the back of scrapbook paper, laminated in a Xyron 900 , and adorned with decorative yarn. I round the edges myself, so they're a bit imperfect. Each measures approximately 2.25x7" and comes in a protective sleeve. The original artwork was drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron Pens and Prismacolor pencils on Strathmore Smooth Bristol 9x12" paper . This fantasy illustration was inspired by my mom, a survivor of over 15 years. The lump was discovered in her breast back in 1994, but was misdiagnosed as benign until six months later. I was in 7th grade at the time, and have never been more scared in my life. The most vivid memory I have of that time isn't waiting in the hospital or helping with the drainage tube - it was when she had to cut her hair because of the chemo....

Friday Finds, Nightmare Style: Jack Skellington

Last year, my Pumpkin King gifted me with a shiny new The Nightmare Before Christmas Collector's Edition DVD . I watch the movie all year long, not just around Halloween, so my VHS version was starting to moan when rewinding. I happily laid it with the rest of my collection. Over the years, I've acquired several official Nightmare treasures, including Jack and Sally Wind Up Toys , a Boogie's Boys Pen Holder, Shock Headknocker , two identical Sally Fleece Blankets (I couldn't bear to return either when I received both as gifts) Rag Doll Perfume , even an Oogie Boogie Lava Lamp. My shrine to Halloween Town is also sprinkled with one of a kind items. A talented glass etcher sent me a Jack and Sally cookie jar from a craft swap on Craftster . Friend and fellow artist E Krumm cut out an awesome Jack silhouette from white foam core and framed it on black as a house warming gift. My eyes are always peeled like grapes for more handmade treats! Luckily, Jack Skellington is a po...

Follow the leader to Lala's Pequenos!

It's the 4th month in a row that I've reached my 100 blog follower goal! Thank you, baby dolls. Give Lala and her Pequeños a piggy back ride - she's my 400th. I don't plan on having a little goblin in my near future, but have hearted her shop in case I need a baby shower gift. Her logo and creations are adorable! She is meticulous in her search for the perfect fabric and obsessed when it comes to softness. It certainly shows in her sales and the quality of her products. The Noonie™ design has been featured in several wonderful places, including an article in Parents Magazine.
